Painting looks hopelessly passive compared to sound, video or interactive installations. I do not know what is painting good for — over the course of years, I do not know it with growing intensity. I have experienced endless moments of absolute boredom in front of beautiful pictures, both as their viewer and their author. This proved, however, to be the best evidence of their presence. It may very well be solely my private obsession; yet I tend to believe that gazing at painting is the religion of the next millenium.
